10/20/19 Why don't you quit?

When Michael was 16, the coach asked him to rejoin the rugby team. Michael had dropped the year before, wanting to concentrate on drama. Michael responded,

“Isn’t there anyone else, Sir?”

to which Coach replied,

“Michael, you should know that if we are asking you, there IS no-one else.”

“I played as hard as I could. In one game, we spent most of the 1st half with the opposing team within 10 yards of scoring. Yet, they didn’t score. At half time our coach inspired us to go on the offensive and we won. I was not the best player, but I played.”

There is no one else.  No other mother, no other father.

There is no “other” to do any of what God has created each of us to do. Somedays that is laundry and cleaning and getting the car fixed.

But still, we bang on God’s door asking. Raising a family and working for tenure/promotion/publishing/teaching--yeah, like the widow, we are still banging on God’s door asking for bread.

We bang on God’s door, and He gives us the Bread of Life.

That is why we don’t quit.

There is no one else; only Jesus has the words of everlasting life.
