How are you wasting time?

The hardest pill I’ve had to swallow is understanding some things are just not in my control.

“What if my lab results come out bad?”

“What if I didn’t do well on my exam?”

“Will they accept my grad school application?”

This can lead to feeling let down. It can lead to false hope. It can lead to overwhelming worry.

Despite its language and imagery of destruction, this week’s Gospel is ultimately a passage grounded in hope -- in the hope that God remains present in the world and in one’s life even when things have gotten so bad that it feels like the world is closing in on us.

For me, I waste my time worrying about things God already has plans for — things I can’t control. Rather than ruminating on how we could’ve changed something, how a situation could have avoided failure, or what we could have done, we must realize that God is still here, with us, helping us through it. We can’t do it alone and we can’t blame ourselves.

Situations may look rough, or maybe they’re not and it’s all in my head, but either way I need to remember His divine plan will ultimately prevail.
